Welcome to Lake Ann United Methodist Church! We have a long history in the small village of Lake Ann, MI. Did you know that Lake Ann used to be the hub of action? Before Traverse City grew, Lake Ann was a happening place for sawmill activity. If you want to know more you should come to the village and stop by our museum, it's pretty fascinating!
Our church began in a pretty grass-roots way, as folks gathered to discuss their desire for a church. A few strong wills and ideas led to the building of the first church. We now worship in the second building, which was renovated in the 80's. In the late 1990's, after the church experienced quick growth, it was clear that a bigger building was necessary. Our Community Center was finished in 2001 which is now used in many ways and is where we meet for our 10:30 service in the summers.
Our hopes for The Community Center are many and we have started to rent the facility for weddings, receptions, banquets, and retreats. The Neighborhood Play Group meets there on the 2nd & 4th Friday from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. We also use it for community open-gym, movie nights, and family fun days.
Lake Ann UMC is a place filled with people from all walks of life. We know that it's ok to wear jeans on Sundays and that being the Body of Christ is about being real with each other. We are people of all ages who work hard and love to play. We'd love to meet you - come on by!
Pastor Josh Manning
Josh was born in a naval hospital outside of Chicago, Illinois in 1976. He grew up in North Carolina and Indiana. Josh started his journey as a young atheist. When he was 20 years old, he experienced God through a youth group that his good friend was working with. His passion for working with youth groups began almost immediately, and as his heart for God grew, so did his passion for youth ministry. He began volunteering with an inner-city outreach ministry designed to reach out to the children of refugees from the Vietnam war. After that he worked as a court officer in juvenile detention, ran a home for at-risk, abused and chemically dependent youth, supervised at a 24-hour rescue shelter for youth and eventually became a full time youth minister. After many years of full time ministry, Josh realized that his passions were shifting from working with a specific age group to teaching and preaching. He has served in several churches of varying sizes, and denominations.
"We live in a world and culture that seems to want to compartmentalize every day life and God, when in truth our lives should run through our relationship with God. My goal is to help people experience God in a way that changes their lives and their priorities."
Josh is married to his best friend, Leah. They have three children, Paeton, Judah and Henri.
